She takes you on a musical journey down memory lane with all the dance and R&B classics that you have come to love. This week stamps took a hike of two cents and the packages are said to be even higher in cost. The hiked prices they say are supposed to compensate for labor at the postal office. With the advent of Internet and email, you’d think that the people responsible for this price raise would at least drop the price of stamps. Two cents can add up. So, I have no intentions of using the physical mail service on a regular basis, especially for packages. I paid $5.00 to mail a $7.00 print catalog a few weeks ago and my wallet is still trying to get over it.

Most medication bottles say childproof and they usually are designed in such a way that to open it you have to do the push and turn routine. I was taking a painkiller couple days ago and my two-year-old wanted to play with the bottle. I gave it to her and I watch to see what she was going to do with it. After all the labeling said child proof, nothing could possibly go wrong. And then too it was a good way to put the claim to a test. Truth be told, after a little doing, my baby was able to open the bottle and twice!! I was amazed. I’m still in awe by that. Can you imagine how many parents leave their medication around thanks to this false advertising? So if you’re a parent and reading this, put the bottles up… way up and away from the kids. They’re figuring this stuff out!!

I love church. Been attending since I was a kid. I was one of those kids that you never had to force to get dressed and ready for church, I’ll just go and embrace the word. But I’ve found myself falling out of the loop quite recently and one man is responsible for it. It was the pastor at the church I had started to attend who while I was breastfeeding my baby, found it appropriate to not only take a gander at my nipples but to talk about how God had delivered him from the spirit of lust. As they say, confession is good for the soul and I acknowledge that and tried to move on conversation wise. Unfortunately this pastor couldn’t get past my breasts. He kept looking and looking and I felt quite uncomfortable about it. Finally, time came for him to leave. At least so I thought. He kept returning saying that he had forgotten his car keys, his jacket and whatever else. “Call me when you want to hang out” he told me finally. I never did because quite frankly a female should have accompanied him. I have since changed my telephone number and cut ties with him.

With the direct selling market at an all-time high, everyone seems to be jumping into the fray to market products through this consultant/ buyer method. New to this is Vista Print, the stationery and business card giant. Interested persons can join the company’s notable styles consultant affiliate program and sell Vista Print’s line of products for a commission. As if Vista Print wasn’t already making mad money.

The cost of babysitting is ridiculously high. No argument there. And with high prices aside, how are we sure that we are getting what we pay for? Well that’s a topic for another day, my real issue is with the woman who posted a vacancy for someone to babysit her child for eight hours of which she would pay $4 an hour. How ridiculous is that? Yes babysitting prices are high but four dollars is an insult. How do these people expect these babysitters to survive on a salary like that? Someone blatantly told the employer that she could hire a crackhead for that price and to that I say it served her right!

It’s rare that I get out to a restaurant because I love tasting my own food and experimenting in the kitchen, but I took a break from all that and got out to the Outback Steakhouse in my city. I have to say that I would be returning to that restaurant really soon. The service was impeccable, they were even nice to my toddler and the food was the best I’ve tasted in a long time. To top off such a great meal I cheesecake and ice cream and that too was sinfully delectable.

It’s a shame that when we have to send our kids to learning institutions and they have to return home with nothing on their minds but fear for bullies and inevitable fights.
A woman recently told me about her son who had gone to Job Corp to aspire in his education and make himself a better man when some guys who harass and bully him constantly confronted him. Why? Because the boy is said to be cute and he gets a lot of attention from the girls. As bad as this situation is, I don’t blame these boys, they don’t know better. I blame the teachers who I heard do not have a handle on the situation. Things are so bad at the Job Corp that the students are answering the phone. Perhaps the Education board can pay more attention to situations such as this.

Nigerians and Ghanaians have added a new scam to their repertoire: the sweetheart scam. Sweetheart scam explained is that these African men and women are using pictures US models and signing up on dating websites. They immediately lock in to as much vulnerable women as they can until they find one that is into them and their looks. Charming the pants out of these women, these men work with a noted script, one which would first feature them professing their love and then wanting to get married and settle down. And then when the women get too comfortable, they start working on their pockets. They come up with stories, which run the gamut of being stranded in another country, saying a family member is sick or that they want to get into business and want the woman to pay the initial cost. So lady’s beware. Put your head before your heart.
